Summer Getaway to Kennebunkport, Maine- Yachtsman Hotel & Marina Club

Kennebunkport, Maine is the perfect New England small town. With beautiful beaches, delicious eats, shops, and sweeping coastal views, it's one of our top picks for a New England weekend getaway. It's also less than a 2 hour drive from Boston. We made our way up Friday around noon and by 2pm we were enjoying a beautiful day by the ocean.

We stayed at the Yachtsman Hotel & Marina Club for the weekend. The bungalow rooms are all situated right on the Kennebunkport river channel that leads to the open ocean. From our room and patio we were able to enjoy great views of the water and boats passing by. All of the rooms are newly remodeled with high ceilings, shiplap walls, and boutique style furnishings and decor. Their main patio is a beautiful spot to enjoy a drink during happy hour or a morning cup of coffee.

The Yachtsman was also the perfect location for activities in Kennebunkport. Located just a short walk from both the waterfront and the main town area, we never had to drive to experience the best of the town. On Friday afternoon we took a walk down to Colony Beach, a small and scenic beach situated on the mouth of the Kennebunkport River channel. It was the perfect place to relax and watch the boats come in and out.

For dinner we took a short ten minute walk into the main town strip to dine at The Boathouse. Located right on the water, it was the perfect ambiance as we sat in the outdoor patio area as the sun was coming down. The food and service were both fantastic. We highly recommend the lobster in the rough dinner, the crab cakes, and the ribeye steak.

On Saturday morning we took a walk down to Walker's Point, most known for the location of George H.W. Bush's summer home. It took about 60-90 minutes at a leisurely pace and along the way there were plenty of sites of harbor views, shops, boats, beaches, and oceanfront homes. During the afternoon we took a walk into town and popped into a bunch of the local shops. We had lunch at Alisson's Restaurant, a nice tavern featuring good eats, lots of TVs, and local beers. We also highly recommend checking out the Spirit of Massachusetts for a cocktail or an appetizer. It's an old ship converted into a restaurant that is actually anchored right in the river in the center of town.
