Burlington, Vermont

There are many cool places to explore in the Northeast, especially if you enjoy the outdoors.  And the convenience of their proximity to one another within the New England region, makes exploring these cities even better.  On our trip back from Montreal a few months back, we made a detour to Burlington, Vermont before  heading back home to Boston.

Burlington is great town with so much to do and see.  The city itself is on the shore of Lake Champlain with beautiful overlook views by the water.  Although we only spent the day there, we would definitely consider returning back again for a weekend trip.

When we first arrived we grabbed lunch at The Farmhouse Tap & Grill. We highly recommend this place!  The food is sourced from Vermont farmers and the freshness and taste of the menu items speaks for itself.  They also have a wide selection of craft brews on tap.  Although they are always updating their menu, if you are a burger-lover then you should definitely go with one from their list of options.  The Farmhouse is best known for those award winning burgers!

Afterwards, we did some shopping around Church Street Marketplace.  There were a huge variety in retail stores and also some locally owned shops.  The street itself is lively with so many people out and about.

If you enjoy craft beers (& are over 21) another must-do is check out one of the  local breweries.  We found a list of breweries for you here. Otherwise, at least do what we did and stop in a local bar to try Heady Topper if you haven't already done so.  We went to Finnigan's Pub to grab a draft of the American Double IPA that everyone talks so highly of and yes, we agree- this stuff is great.  Apparently it is only available in select areas so don't miss out on your chance if you're in town.

With our love for the water, it was only natural our final destination was the Waterfront Park downtown.  The park stretches 900 ft across the lake shore with bike paths and picnic benches in the surrounding area.  It is the perfect place to end your awesome day in Burlington by catching a seat on the rocks and watching the sunset over Lake Champlain.
