Travel The East

Nestled in the Mad River Valley of Warren, VT is one of New England’s premier skiing destinations,  Sugarbush Resort . We made a recent visit to enjoy a few days of skiing and the other amenities the resort had to offer. After making an evening drive up from Boston, the first thing we were ready to do when we arrived was eat. We had a fantastic dinner in the Timbers Restaurant, which is part of the resort property and also serves breakfast and lunch. We highly recommend the lamb stew. For accommodations we stayed in one of the Clay Brook Studios. The resort itself was tastefully designed to mirror Vermont farmhouse architecture. These rooms were as good as it gets for slopeside accommodations. Our studio was equipped with a large bedroom, full kitchen and living area, huge bathroom with a jetted tub, and our own balcony. It actually had the feel of a condo. These rooms were recently remodeled and the craftsmanship and attention to detail was apparent. ...

Pinkies up ladies and gentlemen. No this isn't London, this is High Tea in Boston. Recently we made a reservation at the  Langham Hotel  in Boston for their Afternoon High Tea experience. When we walked into the lobby, our noses perked up and taste buds started dancing with the cornucopia of tea aromas. The lounge setting of the restaurant was both luxurious and modern. We were greeted by a hostess who took us to our white tablecloth setting with beautiful Wedgwood china. The waiter provided us a large sampling of different black and green teas to choose from, all of which have been imported from London. Once we made our selections, the waiter came back over and served our tea selections in our own individual Wedgwood teapots. While the Hingham Shipyard is known for its bustling restaurants and marina, Muse Paintbar offers guests an experience to get back in touch with their creative side. Last week we made a visit to the studio to take part in a paint night. The night basically consist of a bunch of people getting together and socially painting a particular picture under the guidance of an instructor. Additionally beverages and small plates are available to enhance the experience. The theme of our night was the mystic sunset. While everyone follows the same theme and starts with a blank canvas, it was great to see the individuality of everyone’s end painting. No matter what skill level, everyone can feel comfortable and have fun making your own unique creation. The instructor guides the class in the different steps it takes to create the painting including mixing the paint to get different color shades and the techniques to create art's characteristics and shapes. ...

Last weekend we made a trip back to Stowe to stay with friends and were greeted by a winter wonderland. On Friday it was a brisk day but the blue bird skies and the conditions on the mountain made for a great day of skiing. Saturday warmed up to the mid 20s and the couple inches of snow that fell Friday night made for a hell of a day on the mountain .   Every trail was open and we found the glades to be especially soft and fresh. Our favorite trails of the weekend were Lord Loop trails to Hackett's Highway, Goat, and Gondolier. The skiing right now is as good as it gets. Get up there! This past weekend we headed to Ludlow, Vermont to experience the Okemo Mountain Resort .   We stayed at the Jackson Gore Inn , which is situated on the north side of Okemo Mountain. The Jackson Gore Inn featured everything you’d look for in a ski resort lodge. There were numerous restaurants, bar, outdoor heated pool, hot tubs and many other great amenities, in addition to our beautiful studio guest room. Our favorite area was the spacious lobby/lounge area, complete with plenty of sitting areas and a roaring wood fire. On Saturday morning we got an early start on the mountain and the on-trail skiing was as good as it gets. Despite a challenging January for natural snow, Okemo’s snow making and grooming had the whole mountain in pristine condition. Nearly every trail was open. On Saturday we skied mostly the Jackson Gore side of the mountain. Our favorite trails on this side were Tuckered Out – which winds along the whole side of the mount...
