The Magic of Moose Meadow Lodge & Treehouse - Duxbury, VT

This past weekend we took our first travel adventure with our newborn, Hailey. There was no better place to enjoy this memory than the Moose Meadow Lodge & Treehouse located in Duxbruy, VT -
next to the landmark town of Waterbury.

The lodge's story began when owners Greg Trulson and Willie Docto met at a B&B in the mountains of West Virginia in 1992. From there, they visited many more B&Bs, and had the dream of opening one with their own personal touches. In 1998 that dream became a reality when they oppened the Moose Meadow Lodge.

Over the years they've added so many personal touches which make the property such a unique experience. The wood finishings are locally sourced from the forests, sinks carved from rocks on the property, and many of the furniture on the property is hand crafted by Greg. Even the maple syrup served at breakfast is sourced from the trees on the property. The common areas have the feel of a luxury cabin but with local charm. Every where you look is accentuated with beautiful detail and decor.

What a view from the front porch

The lodge features 4 guest rooms, each with their own theme. We stayed in the Creel room with fishing(creel) baskets, rods, lures and other fishing decor. The room was equipped with a king size bed, custom shower/steamer, and a sweeping view of the property. There is also the famous tree house situtated in the woods in back of the lodge. The tree house features an outdoor shower, bedroom and living room-- and of course unlimited views of nature and the landscape. Words don't do it justice!

We started Saturday with a delicious breakfast that is included with the stay, accompanied by scenic mountain views at the dining table. An aspect of the lodge that makes it really special is how many activities there are to do on site. After breakfast I took a snowshoe hike up the property mountainside to the sky loft (a mountain top enclosed Gazebo on the property), while Kristy relaxed with the baby. When I returned we even took a trail walk through the property with the baby and she loved it! In warmer months, guests can fish for trout in the pond just a hundred yards from the property.

Views from the sky loft gazebo!

That afternoon we made a short drive down Rt. 100 to Lawson's Finest Liquids Taproom in Waitsfield, VT. They recently built this new venue and the beer, food, and ambiance were all top notch. We also recommend checking out The Taste Place down the road from Lawson's. They have a solid lineup of local samples and offer a great selection of cheese and charcuterie. For dinner we went to The Reservoir in Waterbury. They have huge tap selection and the food was also top-notch.

On Sunday, after enjoying another fantastic breakfast by Willie, Greg mapped us out a mini-road trip down Rt. 100 which runs parallel to Highway 89. We saw covered bridges, Warren Falls, and even took a detour to Foley Brothers Brewing. It was a nice way to experience an expansive stretch of some of the best landscapes and sights VT has to offer.

Overall we couldn't have asked for a better first trip with Hailey!
