Old Orchard Beach- Old Orchard, ME

It’s about time we made a trip to the northern most part of the East Coast.  So off we were, on our way to the lobster state.  Maine has a number of great beaches along its coast, but we chose Old Orchard, a beach town welcoming hundreds of visitors all summer long.

If you forget your beach attire, no need to worry.  There are tons of local beach shops along the boardwalk.  We stopped in a few to shop around before hitting the beach.  Shop owners were very friendly talking to us about everything from souvenirs to their trip to Saco last weekend.  Needless to say, we ended up buying a few souvenirs before we left.

When we stepped on the sand, the beach conditions were perfect.  Not a cloud in the sky, 80 degrees, and people having a good time.  The water temperature was a little colder than we were used to, but that didn’t stop us from hopping in.  The beach was very clean and the sand is not too rocky on your feet.  One of our favorite parts about Old Orchard beach was the view of the huge Ferris wheel, and pier.  Everything you remember from family vacations as a little kid was all in one spot.

After the beach we stopped to grab lunch at the pier.  Along the dock there are tons of amusement park games and food stands.  It was hard to resist stopping for a corn dogs and not spoiling our appetite, but how could we say no?   It’s not everyday you get a good corn dog.  A lot of the stands were cash-only so don’t forget to stop at the ATM before your trip.

For lunch we went to the Pier Patio Pub.  We weren't overly hungry so we split the Yard Sale Sampler with a few draft beers.  It was more than an enough food for two people.   If it’s nice out, get a table on the deck to soak in the views of the beach and boardwalk while you eat.

We spent the day at Old Orchard beach, but you can definitely make a weekend out of this trip.  With plenty of hotels nearby and fun things to do, we would recommend Old Orchard for weekend summer getaway.  Hope to see you there next time!
